Next Up... Yelawolf

Yelawolf first caught our attention last year at the SXSW 2010 Music Festival in Austin, TX, where he performed at a small showcase for a little over a hundred people.  This past Spring he played SXSW again, this time at Austin's largest music venue for a crowd of thousands sharing the stage with The Wu-Tang Clan and Fishbone... if that ain't progress I don't know what is. 

Why we like Yelawolf...

You know at Society HAE we are all for artists who redefine the mediums they work in and Yelawolf does just that.  Hailing from Alabama and reppin' the south to the fullest, Yelawolf's music is with out a doubt hip hop, yet he artfully blends in bits of rock and soul creating a sound that's all his own.  This range allows him the freedom to collab with artists like Travis Barker, producer and drummer from Blink-182 and then turn around and work with Gucci Mane or Busta Rhymes and still fit right in with skater kids.

We quickly caught up with Yelawolf at the Roots Picnic in Philly.  We talked about his latest collaborations and his debut studio album Radioactive which will be released on September 27, 2011.  Check out our interview with him after the jump.
