Profile Information
- What do you create? (i.e. Indie Films, Novels, Art, Music, etc)
- Wearable Art Nit Ra Sit has been creating unique fashion designs for over fifteen years. A former proprietor of African Cultural Arts and Crafts Store in Brooklyn, I gained experience in the areas of customer satisfaction and customer Service. I learned the basics of garment construction and design from my grandmother who was a grammar school teacher in our native island of Haiti. I continued perfecting the art by sewing for friends and family and began to work professionally while still in college. My love of the creative process and the art of fashion design has been a driving force in my career. Born in Harlem, NY I have always been infatuated with the history of this particular section of the city. I studied many trends in fashion among them, I am attracted to the clothing choices of the ancient Nubian people of Lower Khemit and also, the Harlem Renaissance, through pictures from renowned photographer James Van Der Zee I began recreating some of the designs from the 1920 and 1930's. The patterns for these items I wanted to recreate were no longer in circulation. This is when I set out to learn how to design patterns for my creations. Today, my work represents my eclectic taste in fashion. I continue to take my cues from many different cultures and regions of the world when deciding on my fashion line. Take for instance my accessory fashion line for this fall season. I have combined the traditional Japanese Obi belt with African print fabric. I like to give my client/customers a little more for their purchasing dollar by paying attention to detailing. Keeping in mind what I like when I shop for garments has allowed me to stay in touch with what the modern consumer is looking for. I have a real passion for the industry and look to contribute my share by leaving the world a little more beautiful than I found it.
