Ok, I have not kept in touch with my friend Salvatore Principato in years. I believe the last time I've actually seen him in person was @ Lion's Den about perhaps eight or so years ago. Sal being the wonderful person that he is invited me to see Oumou Sangare's (One West African Wassoulou Diva) performance since I used to go on about how much I luuuvv her; well in any case I have kept in touch with Sal via e-mail over the years and long story short Sal will be performing in the band LIquid… Continue

Unbearable Barrels featured in NYARTS

Posted on July 17, 2009 at 5:17pm 0 Comments

To all who enjoy art with a twist of edumacation; my eccentric yet dear friend Vidho Lorville has recently been featured in NYARTS magazine on-line. Unbearable Barrels is the title of his installation. Vidho explains through the use of multi-media the plight of immigrants as well as the poor and correlates the many dimensions of historical influences, associations that connect the barrel to what influences socio-political/economy of past and present… Continue

Hell THOUGHT Woman!

I hope you don’t mind, but I’m sending you this post because

A) You live in Brooklyn
B) I don’t
C) My little sister, Therese, is performing at the BAM Café on June 27th
D) Since I can’t be there, I want to send as many big sister love warriors to go and scream and rave and cheer her on in my stead. It’s on the Society HAE events calendar, if you want more details.

‘Preciate it, baby! Welcome welcome to SHAE, sis

Ha Ha! No. I doubt it. I love Octavia Butler, though. I'm not even a sci-fi fan like that but I so adore her for showing us that we can be ANYTHING. I young girl I connected with recently (strugglin on her own path) is interested in writing and loves science fiction, so I hipped her to lovely Octavia!
Zane is...errr...ummm...EROTICA. Seriously, it's the first and last time I'll probably ever do anything like that. It was just a trip to SEE if I could do it because I was reading the Diaries of Anais Nin (my favorite writer) at the time and there were these years where she got into writing erotica (to pay the bills and just for kicks), so then I was like...I wonder if I could try it. I found out ZANE (she's like the number 1 Black Erotica Writer...you always see her stuff on Essence Book Lists, etc) was putting together an anthology. So, I threw a little story together (only like 5 pages) and submitted it...and they took it and PAID me. I was like..."this is so bananas". Here's the book (see pic). My story is called "Shiny, Nappy People" and my pseudonym is "Been". Warning....don't read it if erotica is offensive to you. It's not nasty X-rated, but it is definitely "Adult":) Truly, it was kind of an exercise in "reclaiming" Black love and Black sexuality for me. To have it be something beautiful about what Black men and women can give to one another/ how they connect/ what some of that means beyond just the phUkking, ya know???

I am sorry about what happen to your ceramic bowls in school. I had something like that happen to me. Instead someone threw my work in the garbage. Those bowls must have been really good for someone to steal it. You can take it as a compliment, but don't let that be your last memory of ceramics. I know a great studio in long island city, ny one stop away from mid town manhattan www.brickhouseny.com
take a class, workshop sometime!
