The 2013 British Urban Film Festival - call for submissions (deadline closes 5pm, 10 June)

The British Urban Film Festival (BUFF) returns for an 8th year in 2013 presenting the best in urban film coverage in the UK. BUFF 2013 also sees the launch of its’ inaugural urban screenplay competition which is calling for script submissions from film, theatre and TV writers. Winning scripts will be performed as live readings at Channel 4's headquarters in Horseferry Road, Central London – a new addition to the festival schedule of films which will be shown online, on-air and in person from 5-8 September.


If you have a film for festival consideration you’re invited to submit your work to BUFF. We accept all genres and styles including spoken word, animation, documentary, music video, short film and narrative features. International (non-UK) films can be accepted as submissions to the British Urban Film Festival (Non-UK refers to films NOT produced and/or directed by a British individual).


If you have a screenplay/stageplay for festival consideration, you’re also invited to submit your work to BUFF (minimum page count = 30 pages, no more than 60).


There are 3 submission deadlines:

# A non-refundable entry fee of £25 will apply to SCRIPT submissions.

The closing date for SCRIPT submissions is Monday 10 June, 5pm.


# A non-refundable entry fee of £25 will apply to FILM submissions received BEFORE 5pm on Friday 10 May.


# A non-refundable entry fee of £50 will apply to FILM submissions received AFTER 5pm on Friday 10 May.


The closing date for FILM submissions is Monday June 10, 5pm.



Any cheques should be made payable to BUFF Enterprises Ltd (payments made via Paypal are also acceptable). For script submissions please send a hard copy or USB plus a submission fee and cover letter marked ‘Urban Screenplay Competition’.


For film submissions please send a DVD screener, submission fee, EPK plus a cover letter marked BUFF 2013. The EPK for film entries must be submitted by email ONLY to and consists of a minimum of 5 publicity stills from the film (image resolution = 300 dpi), film synopsis plus an mov file of the trailer.
