Thanks for this discussion! There is definitely a growing movement of us folk working/vacationing/studying abroad!
Currently, I'm based in Beijing, China, and I'll be here for at least two years. Some places that I would like to visit/work in the future though are Brazil, Colombia, and Peru. I have an affinity for Latin America and already lived there for three years.
Seems like the Caribbean is up there for top destinations for us (those of us based in the Americas at least) to travel, but I'd encourage us to also hit up South America, the Mediterranean, Africa, and Asia. The world is our oyster and there's no limit to the places we should explore!

I just moved to NYC from Salvador de Bahia, Brazil. I highly recommend traveling to Bahia in general as there are beautiful, mystical spots all over the state, however if you only have a couple of weeks, definitely check out Salvador! It is one of the most culturally vibrant places I have ever been too, and I've traveled extensively..
The city’s historic center; The Pelourinho, is pulsing with Afro-Brazilian rhythms on the daily. The famous Oludum drummers routinely beat through the town, followed by an entourage of dancing fans. It's so hype! When I was living there, I frequently danced with Oludum, it was so exhilarating and fun!
Not only is there constantly live music on the streets, there is capoeira being played nearly in every plaza. Though I spent most of my time in dance classes, I have high respect to all the Capoeiristas; they hold a very sacred art form. Along from the heavy music scene, there is colorful art everywhere, whether you see it being sold by street venders, usually by the artist themselves or murals on buildings...really there is art EVERYWHERE! Naturally, the place itself is a piece of art, from the vibrant colored, colonial style buildings, to the cobble stone streets, it's all very picturesque. To top this beautiful setting off, Salvador is situated right on the cost, with the beautiful ocean breeze always cooling tings off!
Wow Chiara! Your words made Salvador come to life. Seems so vibrant! Brazil is one of my top destinations to go. I hope I make it there sooner rather than later!
